What is tequila?
Tequila is a distilled spirit made either primarily or wholly from the blue agave plant, from Jalisco Mexico. A related drink - called mescal is often confused for tequila, but mescal it’s from Oaxaca Mexico. There two main categories of tequila, the best is 100% Agave.
Tequila Blanco - Young, clear tequila, usually bottled right after distillation. Very good for cocktails or a shot with lime and salt.
Tequila Gold - Young tequila as well, very good for cocktails or a shot with lime and salt.
Tequila Reposado - Must be aged in wood barrels for a minimum of two months. Similar to whiskey, this is tasty sipping tequila, perfect as an apperitive.
Tequila Anejo - Anejo means 'vintage', and this hints at the care and quality of the drink. We're solidly into sipping tequilas now; recommended to enjoy after an exquisite meal as a digestive.
Tequila Extra Anejo - This is an ultra-aged Anejo, requires a minimum of three years in oak. As you can imagine, these will command higher prices. Don't even think about using one of these in a margarita, these are fine spirits to be savored accordingly.
This drinks are not only to forget the pain, the blue agave tequila is a drink with slow carbs, so in moderation also helps reduce cholesterol levels in the blood, as it helps dissolve fat, optimizes cardiac function, is a good digestive and combat stress. Always consumed responsibly. Salud!
